Dear Senator XXXX:
I am writing to ask you to withdraw your support for the so-called “Equality Act,” a bill that effectively erases women as a definable class of people, and which grants men (under the vague claim of “gender identity”) access to women’s and girls’ previously single-sex spaces, including locker rooms, changing rooms, restrooms, and, unbelievably, even domestic violence shelters.
The Equality Act would also force prisons to house male criminals alongside women, which is contrary to United Nations’ International Human Rights Standards for Criminal Officials. In its document, titled Human Rights and Prisons, the United Nations specifies, as an “essential principle,” that “Women prisoners shall be detained separately from male prisoners.”
For the sake of our sisters behind bars, I urge you to heed United Nations guidelines. Those nations that have, within the past few years, begun allowing male prisoners to enter women’s prisons, have seen the unsurprising result: sexual assault. The most well-known case is that of Karen White in the United Kingdom, but there are many others, particularly in Canada, where this practice began in 2018.
The Equality Act would give any man the right to “identify” as a woman in cases in which sex is a bona fide occupational qualification, such as providing intimate care to women and girls. It would bar rape victims from being able to request a female medical examiner, for example. Women in Scotland were recently guaranteed this right, and the Equality Act would put American women and girls behind our Scottish sisters in that regard.
Simply, the Equality Act would be a disaster for women and girls. Please, Senator XXXX, vote “no” on the Equality Act.
Sincerely, XXXX
