We have an opportunity to take legal action supporting California women who are trying to get men OUT of their prisons. The catch? The deadline for filing an amicus brief in the case, Chandler v. Macomber, is less than three weeks away, and we were notified of the opportunity only yesterday afternoon.
So we’re leaving it up to you.
Our goal is to raise at least $7,000 in unrestricted donations by 9 a.m. tomorrow morning, June 19 — 24 hours from now. If we reach the target, we will have the resources to take action on legal opportunities like this one.
Commissioning and filing amicus briefs is one of the most expensive actions WDI USA undertakes. We’re already committed to submitting briefs in two other cases this summer — an appeal opposing laws that permit men in an all-women’s spa and a lawsuit supporting our right to free speech, prompted after sex-realist language was silenced in a legislative hearing. Now we have a chance to help end the practice of allowing men to transfer into women’s prisons; support our feminist colleagues at Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF), who originally brought the case; and make our voices heard on this outrageous violation of incarcerated women’s human rights.
We still have an ongoing match for new monthly contributions — start a new monthly gift in June and it will be matched by another donor for three months, as well as counted toward the amount we hope to raise in the next 24 hours. Or make a one-time contribution. Any amount helps!
Yours in urgency,
WDI USA
Please note that contributions made during this challenge are unrestricted.
