Excerpt: The belief that some men can be women has eliminated most if not all single-sex spaces, and women’s domestic violence shelters are no exception. A WDI USA volunteer made calls to 23 such shelters to understand the extent to which males claiming to be women are being housed in these shelters along with the women, when and why the shelters’ policy on admitting such men changed, whether the shelter receives HUD funding, how applicants are screened, and the effects of this policy on the women and girls housed there.
