Dear Senator XXX:

I am writing to thank you for opposing the Equality Act, and to urge you to do everything in your power to block its passage.

The Equality Act, as currently written, allows men access to spaces where women and girls are vulnerable and often in states of undress, including locker rooms, changing rooms, restrooms, and, unbelievably, even domestic violence shelters.

The Equality Act would also force prisons to house male criminals alongside women, which is contrary to United Nations’ International Human Rights Standards for Criminal Officials. In its document, titled Human Rights and Prisons, the United Nations specifies, as an “essential principle,” that “Women prisoners shall be detained separately from male prisoners.”

Those nations that have, within the past few years, begun allowing male prisoners to enter women’s prisons, have seen the unsurprising result: sexual assault. The most well-known case is that of Karen White in the United Kingdom, but there are many others, particularly in Canada, where this practice began in 2018.

The Equality Act would give any man the right to “identify” as a woman in cases in which sex is
a bona fide occupational qualification, such as providing intimate care to women and girls. It would bar rape victims from being able to request a female medical examiner, for example. Women in Scotland were recently guaranteed this right, and the Equality Act would put American women and girls behind our Scottish sisters in that regard.

In short, the Equality Act would be a disaster for women and girls, and I am grateful for your
opposition. Anything you can do to block its passage will be remembered and appreciated.

Sincerely,
X
