Get Your State Representatives to Introduce the Online Age Verification Liability Act
This is an opportunity to take concrete action to advance the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights and support women and girls by urging your lawmakers to introduce an Online Age Verification Liability Act in your state.
The Online Age Verification Liability Act would mandate the use of age verification measures on websites that contain adult sexual content. This Act would make it much more difficult for minors to access pornography, which they often do accidentally at very young ages. Consequences of pornography exposure in children and adolescents include more sexist attitudes, sexual aggression, risky sexual behaviors, higher rates of eating disorders, depression, low self-esteem, and reduced academic performance.
Age-verification bills introduced in other states have performed very well across political divides; for example in Louisiana, with only 1 dissenting vote in the House and 0 in the Senate.
If you live in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Colorado, North Dakota, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Maine, we are urging signatories to reach out to your state legislators and ask them to introduce an Online Age Verification Liability Act in your state.
