WHRC USA’s Letter to Federal Agencies about the Harms of Biden’s “Gender Identity” Executive Order (Jan 20th, 2021) on Women’s Sex-Based Rights
On January 20th, 2021, President Biden issued an executive order titled “Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation.” The executive order states that discrimination on the basis of sex also includes sexual orientation and “gender identity.”
It orders the head of each federal agency to reevaluate their policies, programs, regulations, and agency actions to ensure that they are expanding the definition of sex discrimination in their agencies to also include sexual orientation and “gender identity.” You can read the full text of the Executive Order here.
In response to President Biden’s executive order, WHRC USA has written and sent 12 letters to the heads of many of the federal agencies set to be impacted by this order, urging them to keep sex as its own distinct, protected category, and to not conflate it with “gender identity.” You can read or download each letter below:
