The U.S. chapter of Women’s Declaration International (WDI USA), the leading global organization fighting to protect women’s sex-based rights, urges Senators to vote no on President Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court. No one who is unable to define the word “woman” is fit to serve on the Court.

WDI USA is a nonpartisan organization. We are Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Greens. Collectively, we work to reaffirm women’s sex-based rights, including the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and girls that result from the replacement of the category of sex with that of ‘gender identity.’ We promote the Declaration on Women’s Sex-Based Rights (the Declaration) at all levels of government. Article 1 of the Declaration reaffirms that the rights of women are based on the category of sex.

We know that the word “woman” means an adult human female. This is consistent with the dictionary definition of the word “woman” that appears in both the Merriam-Webster and Oxford English dictionaries, and with numerous medical dictionaries. It is also consistent with common sense.

On March 17, 2022, U.K. women’s rights activist Kellie-Jay Keen was at the NCAA swimming championship meet in Atlanta, where Lia Thomas (a man) was competing on the women’s team. She had the following exchange with another spectator regarding Thomas’s participation:

Kellie-Jay Keen: “That is not a woman.”

Other spectator: “Are you a biologist?”

Kellie-Jay Keen: “Oh my god, I’m not a vet, but I know what a dog is.”

On March 21, 2022, WDI USA President Kara Dansky tweeted: “Will even one Senate Republican ask Ketanji Brown Jackson what she thinks a woman is? @SenateGOP American feminists would love to hear her answer. All we need is one.” She subsequently added numerous tags of Republican Senators in a subtweet, including Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

On March 22, 2022, the following exchange occurred during the Senate confirmation hearings of Judge Jackson:

Senator Blackburn: “Can you provide a definition for the word “woman”?

Judge Jackson: “I can’t.”

Senator Blackburn: “You can’t?”

Judge Jackson: “Not in this context. I’m not a biologist.”

Thank you, Senator Blackburn.

If Judge Jackson is unable to define the word “woman,” if she thinks that it requires a biology degree to do so, then she is not qualified to serve on the United States Supreme Court.

We urge President Biden to withdraw his nomination and, if he does not, we urge all Senators to vote no to confirm.

  1. I oppose confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson.
It is crucial that Supreme Court justices recognize that sex — biological sex — not be confused with “gender identity”.
Jackson is being heralded as the first Black WOMAN to be nominated to the Court.
If she cannot define “woman”, how does she and how do we know that she is a woman?
We all know what women are!
Every single human who ever lived was birthed from the body of a woman.
It seems to me that Biden nominated her because he was assured by the vetting process that she was in accord with his agenda to replace “sex” with “gender identity” in civil rights laws and agency practices and procedures.

  2. You can not protect women’s rights if you pretend not to know what a woman is. The misogyny from the left has been eye opening. I have never been so disappointed in my vote for Democrats and this gender identity nonsense is why I finally disaffiliated with the party. Unless you stop now, admit your mistake, and stop conflating gender identity with biological sex in the law, the Democratic Party can start planning for a future of irrelevance.

  3. Screw this single issue politics. You’ve become puppets of the right wing it seems. Opposing this Supreme Court nominee is shortsighted and ultimately counter productive.. for women.

  4. She is being intimidated by gender ideology and that is disturbing. She subsequently did say that she is a woman . I’m not sure that is enough.

  5. Biden has the same views on gender, as do most Democrats. They may be wrong, but they won’t be impressed by this post.

  6. My fear is that NO candidates will feel safe defining woman. They fear being tormented, threatened and no-platformed.

  7. This invasion of wokeness and silliness is enough now and needs to be stopped. If a woman offered as a candidate for the Supreme Court can’t define what she is, if children can be doped up on hormones without parental consent, if lopping off healthy body parts is seen as a cure for mental aberration, something is severely off-kilter and wrong. I am NOT a Conservative but am an Independent. I used to be a Liberal but do not consider myself “anything” at this point because I am not seen as ‘anything’ by either Democrats or Republicans.

Perhaps it is time for a 3rd party. . .Alas, it seems as if the United Staes is going to the dogs. I am, as a woman said, not a vet. But I surely know what a dog is. . .

  8. I want my name removed from the declaration. I do not support this vileness and you do not speak for me. I am done with this organization and have stopped donating.

    1. We’re sorry to hear this. This is the USA chapter rather than the international Women’s Declaration organization, however, and so we don’t have control over their website. We can get you in touch with the international organization if you’d like your name removed from there.
